Gautam Gambhir REACTS To The 2011 World Cup Winning Six By Dhoni

While India celebrates its ninth anniversary for their second World Cup triumph, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who was a member of the squad and played a vital role in the win took a dig at a social media post on a famous cricketing website.

Responding to the picture of MS Dhoni hitting the iconic six to win the tournament on a well-known cricketing website, Gambhir said that it is a high time to end the obsession with the shot as the entire team had come together to ensure the victory.

Gambhir tweeted, “Just a reminder @ESPNcricinfo : #worldcup2011 was won by entire India, entire Indian team & all support staff. High time you hit your obsession for a SIX.”

Gambhir, who is now a Delhi BJP MP, led the 2011 final against Sri Lanka from the front. The opener set up a vital 109-run partnership with Dhoni after the early dismissals of Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar. Thisara Perera finally dismissed Gambhir in the 42nd over while he was batting on 97.

Dhoni, the then India’s skipper, played an unbeaten knock of 91 and set up a 54-run partnership with Yuvraj Singh led India to victory. He wrapped up the match by slamming Nuwan Kulasekara for a historic six, as after 28 years India was declared the world champions.

Gambhir had spoken in November 2019 about how he had never imagined having a century’s mark in the finals and concentrated on bringing India to victory. In the interview, he blamed Dhoni for missing out on the century.
