American singer Lizzo is facing a lawsuit from three of her dancers, who allege se*ual harassment and a hostile work environment. The case was filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday. According to AP reports, the singer allegedly forced the dancers to perform nude at a club in Amsterdam, the Netherlands’ capital, and also shamed one of them for her weight gain before eventually firing her.
The plaintiffs, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, have made several charges, including se*ual, religious, and racial harassment, disability discrimination, assault, and false imprisonment. In a statement, the law firm representing them stated, “Davis and Williams were eventually fired while Rodriguez resigned over the appalling behavior.”
The lawsuit further claims that the white members in Lizzo’s company discriminated against the black members of the dance team, accusing them of being lazy, unprofessional, and having bad attitudes. The complaint cited in the statement highlights that these accusations reflect stereotypes commonly used to disparage and discourage Black women from advocating for themselves.
The accusations against Lizzo are serious, and the lawsuit seeks to address the alleged mistreatment and harassment experienced by the dancers during their time with the singer. As of now, Lizzo has not issued any response or statement regarding the allegations.
The case is likely to be closely monitored as it raises important issues related to workplace harassment, discrimination, and the treatment of employees within the entertainment industry.
Throughout 2023, Lizzo has been on an extensive tour, covering North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia. Recently, she concluded the Australian leg of her tour, which The Guardian praised as a show filled with “spectacular, celebratory joy.”
