Shamshera Box Office Collection Day 1: Ranbir Kapoor’s Comeback Film Falls Flat

Ranbir Kapoor's comeback film 'Shamshera' witnessed a low opening on Day 1. Check out the box office collection of the period action film.

Ranbir Kapoor has made a comeback to the silver screen with ‘Shamshera’ after four years. His last release was ‘Sanju’, a biopic of actor Sanjay Dutt, which was released in 2018. Fans have waited for a long time to see the charming actor on screen again. Ranbir plays a double role in the period action film ‘Shamshera’. Vaani Kapoor plays his love interest while Sanjay Dutt dons the hat of an antagonist. The film was released in over 4000 theatres on 22 July.

Shamshera Box Office Collection Day 1:

Shamshera has underperformed at the box office on Day 1. With 4,000 screens, it is the second-widest release of the post-pandemic era. However, the occupancy on day 1 was very low. Shamshera earned Rs 10.25 cr on Day 1, which is lower than Akshay Kumar’s flop film ‘Samrat Prithviraj’. Even Gangubai Kathiawadi, which starred his wife Alia Bhatt, earned better numbers at the box office amid the Covid chaos.

Senior Journalist Bharathi S Pradhan called Shamshera a “Rs 150 Crore master class on how not to make a film”

Reviewing the film, she said, “If one were to look at it dispassionately and from a distance, one would lament the money going down the drain and some extremely well executed action set pieces which alas will go unnoticed given the general chaos. Shamshera is the kind of misadventure where even the performances can’t be praised. It really is time for Yashraj Films to do a spot of self-introspection.”
