Rajkummar Rao Addressed Bollywood Movies Failure, ‘Need To Do Better Ourselves’

Rajkummar Rao spoke on Bollywood movies not working at the box office and if that worries him as an actor

In the last few months, not a single Bollywood movie has enjoyed the taste of success. Almost every film is either underperforming or average or failing at the box office. Rajkummar Rao is currently basking in praises for his latest Netflix release Monica, O My Darling. He, who was last seen in HIT: The First Case which too didn’t perform well in theaters, spoke on Bollywood’s failing at the box office.

In a recent interview with The Indian Express, Rajkummar Rao addressed if Bollywood is at a fault. He said, “I have had this conversation with a lot of my friends. We keep saying that Hindi cinema is not doing well, but we have not made so many good films in the last year. So, there’s no point in wondering kyu nahi chal rahi hai (why is it not working). I think we need to push the envelope and do better ourselves.”

Later when asked about being a mainstream actor, the uncertainty at the box office worries him. He answered, “Not at all. Also, I think times have changed. My only concern is that the producer is making money. If there’s no loss, they will make another film with me. Also, I think we work around it in a way that the films are under a certain budget. We get the economics right so that everyone is happy.”

Rao’s latest release Monica, O My Darling is streaming on Netflix from 11th November 2022. The neo-noir thriller comedy also stars Radhika Apte, Huma Qureshi, Sikandar Kher, and Akansha Ranjan, alongside Rajkummar Rao.

On the work front, he has Mr and Mrs Mahi with Janhvi Kapoor in the pipeline. He also has Guns and Gulabs which will soon release on Netflix. The actor also confirmed the sequel of his horror comedy-drama Stree. He will soon collaborate with Shraddha Kapoor for Dinesh Vijan and Maddock Films’ horror cinematic universe.
