In the turn of events, Dinesh Kartik stepped down as the captain of Kolkata for the remaining games of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Now, England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has been handed over the responsibility to led Kolkata henceforth. Dinesh Kartik gave up Kolkata’s captaincy ahead of their outing against Mumbai on Friday.

During the toss, Eoin Morgan was all praises for the former skipper of Kolkata. Morgan described DK has as ‘incredibly selfless’. The 34-year old also lauded the franchise for creating an environment that lets individuals express themselves freely.

Speaking about why Dinesh Kartik stepped down as the captain of Kolkata, Morgan said that he wanted to focus on his batting.

The new skipper of Kolkata said, “DK informed yesterday that he would like to step back and focus on his batting as he feels that’s the best option for the team. It’s incredibly selfless and it also shows a lot of courage from him to do that, putting the team first ahead of him being skipper.”

Furthermore, Morgan added that a world class team needs to have a number of leaders within the dressing room and he feels that Kolkata has them in abundance.

For the unknown, Eoin Morgan was the vice-captain of the team while Dinesh Kartik was leading Kolkata. As the new captain, Morgan will continue working with the players within the group.

Kolkata had to face defeat when they locked horns with Rohit Sharma led Mumbai on Friday. The Mumbai-based franchise registered an 8-wicket victory against Kolkata.

As of now, Kolkata is in the number four position on the IPL Points Table. On the other hand, Mumbai is at the top.
