Why South Actors Reject Alcohol Ads? Siddharth Unveils Kamal Haasan & Rajinikanth’s Influence Still Continues

Siddharth opened up on how South Indian superstars Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth set a precedent against endorsing harmful products.

South actors’ aura on cinema screens and outside theatres shines brightly. From delivering larger-than-life movies that attract seas of fans to rejecting brands harmful to health, their commitment to being perfect inspirations for fans is commendable. One such anecdote that will stun the unaware is that South Indian superstars do not encourage alcohol or other harmful brands just to earn money, as revealed by actor Siddharth.

In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, Siddharth discussed this stance while promoting his upcoming film ‘Indian 2’, a vigilante action thriller that stars Kamal Haasan in the main lead. Reflecting on the film’s theme of tearing down corruption, Siddharth shared how the current generation of South Indian actors continues the influence left by Tamil superstars Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, who put a ban on alcohol endorsements.

According to Siddharth, years ago, Ulaganayagan (Haasan) and Thalaiva (Rajinikanth) made a commitment not to endorse paan masala, alcohol, smoking or other harmful products. He stated that if these superstars had chosen to promote such products, others would likely have followed suit. Today “Nobody does it because they set a precedent,” he said, adding that he feels honoured to be in an industry where such legends lead by example both in their careers and personal lives.

Siddharth left fans surprised when the ‘Indian 2’ trailer was released, showing him as a junior vigilante who follows the path of the iconic Veerasekaran Senapathy aka ‘Indian’. Fans wondered if his character related to Senapathy, speculating if he is Senapathy’s grandson, the son of Chandru.

Clarifying these details, Siddharth shared insights about his character in the recent pre-release event held in Hyderabad. The film, which also stars Samuthirakani, as Siddharth shared he is playing a role of his father. ‘Indian 2’, written and directed by S Shankar is bringing back the magic of its predecessor released 28 years ago, promising an extravganza 4D IMAX experience. The sequel is set to release on July 12, 2024, in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi languages.
