What Is the Pellikuthuru Ceremony?
The Pellikuthuru ceremony is a cherished pre-wedding ritual in South India, like Haldi ceremony in North Indian weddings which takes place after Mehndi ceremony. It holds great significance for the bride and groom’s families. While this ceremony is called Pellikuthuru for the bride, it is referred to as Pellikoduku for the groom.
Here’s what typically happens during the Pellikuthuru ceremony:
Firstly, the man and woman are dressed up as bride and groom for this ceremony, followed with various steps of rituals. Including, a paste made of turmeric, sandalwood and other herbs is applied to the bride’s body. This tradition symbolizes cleansing and blessings for a happy married life. Then, elders bless the bride by performing Aarti (Harathi) and showering her with Akshanthalu (rice mixed with turmeric). Also, the bride receives wedding jewelry from her parents, relatives and friends.
We can also see in the images shared by Sobhita, her elderly relatives are seen applying turmeric paste to her feet and performing Aarti, receiving jewellery, capturing the emotional and vibrant essence of this ritual.
The couple, who got engaged on August 8 after dating for two years will tie the knot at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad. This venue holds special meaning as it was founded by Naga Chaitanya’s grandfather, Akkineni Nageswara Rao. The event will host around 400 guests.
In related news, the Akkineni family is already in a celebratory mood as Naga Chaitanya’s brother Akhil Akkineni, recently got engaged to Zainab Ravdjee in a private ceremony on November 26.
