Mahesh Babu and Sreeleela’s Guntur Kaaram, which hit theaters during Sankranthi 2024, created buzz for various reasons. While the film performed poor the box office, one particular track ‘Kurchi Madathapetti’ became famous for its catchy beats but didn’t go well much with the audience for different reason and became most trolled Telugu song. Surprisingly despite the backlash, the song has now achieved an incredible milestone of 550+ million views on YouTube, proving that even criticism can lead to success.
Mahesh Babu and Sreeleela’s song “Kurchi Madathapetti” was composed by Thaman S, with lyrics by Ramajogayya Sastry and sung by Sri Krishna and Sahithi Chaganti. When it first came out, many people made fun of its lyrics, which translate to “folding the chair” calling them too simple and uninteresting. The repetitive dance steps also faced criticism. Soon, the song became a target for memes and jokes with its lyrics and moves being mocked widely online.

However, what started as trolling slowly turned into appreciation. The catchy music and fun choreography made it hard for people to ignore. Fans across the world began creating videos and dance covers of the song. What was once mocked became popular, as people couldn’t stop humming the tune or recreating its steps.
Reaching 550 million views on YouTube is a huge achievement for any song, which is now on the half way to hit a billion and will it hit that greater million? Meanwhile, YouTube Music has already named ‘Kurchi Madathapetti’ as the Top Song of 2024. Despite its rocky start, the song is now a hit and became a cultural phenomenon.
Guntur Kaaram, directed by Trivikram Srinivas had a gripping storyline but the soundtrack, especially this track became the movie’s most talked-about aspect. It’s amazing how a most trolled Telugu song turned into one of the biggest hits of the year.
