Telangana politician Konda Surekha recently found herself at the center of a major controversy after making remarks about Samantha and Naga Chaitanya’s divorce. In her viral comments, she accused BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) of being involved in their separation. Surekha claimed that KTR’s alleged illegal activities, such as drug use and phone tapping, played a role in the couple’s divorce. However, this statement quickly led to legal action from KTR, demanding an apology and retraction within 24 hours, threatening defamation and criminal charges if ignored.
Konda Surekha Clarifies Her Statement
In response, Konda Surekha took to Twitter to clarify her intentions and issue an apology. She explained that her comments were aimed at questioning KTR’s “belittling of women” and were not meant to harm anyone’s personal life. She expressed regret if her words caused any offense to Samantha and Naga Chaitanya, insisting she never intended to target their family. “In my political career, I have never brought up anyone’s personal issues for political gain. I did not demean your family or Ms. @Samanthaprabhu2,” she said, adding that she never uses someone’s personal problems to score political points.
She continued by saying, “My comments were meant to address a leader’s disrespect towards women, not to hurt @Samanthaprabhu2. The way you’ve risen through self-determination is something I admire. If you or your fans were hurt by my remarks, I unconditionally retract them.”
Samantha and Naga Chaitanya’s Response
Following the apology, both Samantha and Naga Chaitanya took to social media to express their disappointment and clarify the truth behind their divorce. Samantha issued a statement saying, “My divorce is a personal matter, and I request that you refrain from speculating about it. Our choice to keep things private doesn’t mean it should be misrepresented. To clarify, my divorce was mutual and amicable, with no political conspiracy involved.”
Naga Chaitanya stated similar sentiments, calling Konda Surekha’s comments “ridiculous” and “unacceptable”. He added, “Today, the claim made by Minister Konda Surekha garu is not only false, but it’s also shameful. Women deserve respect and support. Using celebrities’ personal life decisions to make media headlines is deeply wrong.”
Telugu Film Industry Voice Their Frustration
The controversy didn’t end there, as the entire Tollywood industry voiced their frustration over using actors’ names for political gain. The hashtag “Film Industry Will Not Tolerate” began trending on social media, with prominent actors like Nagarjuna, Amala Akkineni, Akhil Akkineni, Megastar Chiranjeevi, Prakash Raj, Allu Arjun, NTR, and Nani expressing their outrage. Many in the industry criticized the act of exploiting personal matters to gain political attention, stating that it disrespects both the individuals involved and the film community.
