Jr NTR’s highly-anticipated film Devara: Part 1, hit theaters on September 27, 2024 marking his return to the big screen as a solo lead after six years. Fans of the actor were thrilled to see him back and the excitement resulted into a strong box office start, to film quickly crossed the ₹300 crore milestone in just three days of its release, making headlines for its massive success.
The official Instagram page of Devara shared the exciting news with a ₹304 crore gross poster and a caption that read, “A hurricane named #Devara… has wiped out every nook and corner with his ‘X’ style of destruction.”
As reported by trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Devara: Part 1 saw a steady rise over its first weekend. The film earned ₹7.95 crore on Day 1, ₹9.50 crore on Day 2, and ₹12.07 crore on Day 3, bringing the total India nett collection to ₹29.52 crore. Despite its strong weekend performance, Monday (Day 4) is expected to see a significant dip in earnings, which is typical for big releases after their opening weekend.
Projections suggest that the movie might experience a 50% drop in collections on Monday, potentially earning between ₹5-7 crore for the Hindi version. However, the film is still on track to surpass ₹30 crore in India nett collections by the end of Day 4.
On social media platforms like Reddit, reactions to Devara have been mixed. A post on Reddit carried the caption, “RIP Devara! Guess the audience finally realized Tier 1 stars can’t save a bad film.” Some users shared their thoughts, with one commenting, “Setting up the movie for part 2 is such an overkill,” while others defended the film, stating, “When did any star save bad films? Every star has given big disasters in their career. Stars can get huge Day 1 openings, but content decides the long run.”
Another user added, “For godsake, unless it’s a massive blockbuster with great word of mouth (WOM), every big film will drop on Monday. Wait till Tuesday morning and then judge.” One more user chimed in with a balanced view, saying, “The movie has already done about 70-75% recovery in the first 3 days though.”
Despite the Monday drop, trade experts remain hopeful that Devara: Part 1 will continue to perform well at the box office. With a gross of ₹304 crore worldwide in just three days, the film is expected to cross the ₹500 crore mark by the end of its first week. Directed by Siva Koratala, the film stars Jr NTR, Janhvi Kapoor, and Saif Ali Khan, with a stellar soundtrack by Anirudh Ravichander.
The coming days will reveal whether the film maintains its momentum but for now Devara has cemented its place as a strong contender at the box office.
