Choreographer Jani Master Suspended As Dancers’ Union President By TFCC Amid Assault Allegations By Assistant

Choreographer Jani Master suspended by TFCC over sexual assault allegations filed by his assistant.

The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) has taken action against Choreographer Jani Master following serious allegations made by his assistant, a 21-year-old female choreographer, who accused him of sexual harassment. Jani Master, known for his work in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films, as well as being a recent National Award winner for the Tamil song Megham Karukaatha, now faces legal trouble after his assistant filed a Zero FIR against him. The accusations date back to 2019 when she claims the harassment began during a film shoot in Mumbai and continued in various locations.

The issue gained national attention after the release of the Hema Committee Report, which highlighted workplace harassment in the Malayalam film industry. The report inspired survivors from other regional industries to come forward. In light of this, the female assistant alleged multiple instances of harassment by Choreographer Jani Master during their time working together.

In response, the TFCC announced an interim decision on Tuesday, September 17, temporarily suspending Jani Master from his position as president of the Telugu Film and TV Dancers and Dance Directors Association (TFTDDA). The suspension was aimed at preventing any undue influence or pressure from being placed on the survivor during the investigation. Actor Jhansi, a member of the sexual harassment redressal panel, confirmed that the decision was made to protect the survivor and ensure her work continues without disruption.

The panel’s lawyer, Kavya Mandava, clarified that the interim order is effective until the committee completes its inquiry within 90 days. Producer KL Damodar Prasad, another member of the panel, confirmed that the investigation is being conducted in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the POSH Act.

Although the FIR was initially filed on September 11 at Raidurgam police station, the case has since been transferred to Narsingi police station as the victim resides in that jurisdiction.
