A tragic stampede at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre during the December 4 premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule claimed the life of a 53-year-old woman and left several injured. The incident, which occurred despite proper communication of the star’s arrival and security arrangements, sparked widespread debate. The focus has now shifted to the Allu Arjun arrest, as authorities initially detained the star, citing his presence at the event. However, support for the actor has poured in from fans and prominent figures, including filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV), who raised critical questions.
RGV Questions Accountability for Stampedes
RGV took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to voice his concerns about holding celebrities accountable for crowd mismanagement. In his post, he questioned the logic behind such decisions. He wrote,
“In the arrest case of @alluarjun I have these 4 questions to the concerned authorities:
1. In case of stampedes at places like kumbh melas or brahmostavas, will Gods be arrested?
2. In case of stampede deaths at political meetings or rallies, will political leaders be arrested?
3. In case of stampede deaths at public film events, will the heroes and heroines be arrested?
4. Except for police and organisers, who else can possibly control stampedes?”

He further criticized the public’s tendency to blame the actor and described the Allu Arjun arrest as unnecessary. RGV also praised Allu Arjun’s contribution to cinema, calling him “the BIGGEST STAR of INDIA” and pointing out the irony of him being jailed despite giving Indian cinema its biggest hit.
. @alluarjun the BIGGEST STAR of INDIA, a resident of TELANGANA STATE has given the GREATEST GIFT to the TELANGANA STATE by giving the BIGGEST HIT in the ENTIRE HISTORY of iNDIAN CINEMA and the TELANGANA STATE in turn gave him the BIGGEST RETURN GIFT by sending him to JAIL…

Amid the controversy, the Telangana High Court granted Allu Arjun interim bail, observing that he had attended the event with prior permission. A letter from the Sandhya Theatre management, which informed local police about the arrangements, surfaced online and has since gone viral, clearing the actor of direct responsibility.
Following the tragic event, authorities in Telangana have banned benefit shows. Reacting to the ban, RGV noted, “Banning BENEFIT SHOWS due to the incident cannot be an answer. There was a time when benefit shows were for charity. Now, they’ve lost that meaning entirely.”
As the dust settles on the controversy, discussions on safety measures at mass gatherings have taken center stage. For Allu Arjun, the tragic incident underscores the complexities of stardom and public events.
