10 Major Upcoming South Indian Movies After Pushpa, RRR, And KGF 2

The South Indian Cinema has been creating a buzz even among Bollywood audiences. Here's a list of most anticipated upcoming South Indian Films.

Bollywood remakes of  South Indian cinema have made huge business at the box office like Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Bachchan Pandey, Dabbang, Drishyam, and Kabir Singh, while films like Vikram Vedha, Anniyan, and many more are ready to make their release this year.

Apparently, the South Indian Cinema has been creating a buzz even among Hindi audiences. After the success of Baahubali, KGF, Pushpa and RRR, the statistics have reached an all-time high. The Indian film industry is now witnessing the South Indian film wave.

Here’s a list of some highly anticipated Upcoming South Indian Movies which will soon hit the theatres.

1- Salaar:

After the blockbuster success of ‘KGF: Chapter 1’ and ‘KGF: Chapter 2’, filmmaker Prashanth Neel is ready with his upcoming film ‘Salaar’. The south industry megastar Prabhas is currently filming for Prashanth Neel’s film ‘Salaar’. The film stars Prabhas in the lead role and is currently one of the most anticipated films after the major success of KGF: Chapter 2.

Few announcements about the film have been made public recently with its teaser to be released soon by next month in May, which has roused the curiosity and excitement among the audience. The movie is directed by Prashanth Neel and produced by Homeable Films. The theatrical release of this much-awaited film will take place in 2023.

2- Adipurush:

South Superstar Prabhas has many big films in his bag for the upcoming year. He will be doing the role of Lord Ram in Om Raut’s next project Adipurush. Kriti Sanon & Saif Ali Khan will also feature in the role of Janaki & Lankesh respectively. Adipurush will be bankrolled by Bhushan Kumar along with Krishan Kumar and Om Raut. Reportedly in Nov 2021, films shooting has been completed, and further, after the completion of post-production work, it will be ready to hit the cinema theatres by August 2022.

3- Pushpa: The Rule:

After ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ hit the theatres in December 2021, the expectations from the upcoming sequel ‘Pushpa: The Rule’ have been raised by a huge level. The pan-Indian movie, however, was a massive blockbuster across India, propelling Telugu superstar Allu Arjun into a nationwide superstar. The success has raised the excitement of ‘Pushpa: The Rule’. Directed by Sukumar, this is amongst the best upcoming pan-Indian movies of 2023. The team will soon begin the shooting for the sequel.

4. Liger:

Liger is filmed simultaneously in both Hindi and Telugu languages. The film is being helmed by the known south Indian director Puri Jagannadh. South Indian superstar actor Vijay Devarakonda will be seen in the film as a Kick Boxer. The film also stars Ananya Panday, Ronit Roy, and Ramya Krishnan. It will be released in both Hindi and Telugu languages along with its dubbed versions of Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. The film’s shooting is currently ongoing. According to the reports, Janhvi Kapoor was the first choice of the makers for the film but due to her date issues, she was replaced by Ananya Panday.

5- Project K:

Touted as the “biggest film of Indian cinema,” Project K will focus on the struggle for survival in an apocalyptic world. Nag Ashwin’s next film, tentatively titled ‘Project K’, starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan in the leading roles is one of the most awaited films in Indian cinema. The big-budget science fiction film recently completed its first few schedules with the two Bollywood stars and the ‘Baahubali’ actor. 

6- Ramarao On Duty

Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja will be soon coming on the big screens with his long-awaited action thriller Ramarao On Duty. Earlier it was scheduled to release on 25 March, but later makers pushed back the release date to 17 June 2022 owing to Rajamouli’s big-ticket film RRR. It features Ravi Teja in the protagonist role, along with him Jai Bhim actress Rajisha Vijayan will be seen in the lead actress role opposite Ravi Teja.

7. Agent:

‘Agent’ is one of the most anticipated upcoming pan-Indian movies of 2022. The film features Mammootty, Akhil Akkineni, and Sakshi Vaidya in lead roles. The shooting for the film is presently underway in Hyderabad. Billed as an action thriller, this big-budget entertainer is scheduled for release on August 12, 2022. Surender Reddy’s directorial film is backed by Rambrahmama Sunkara under the banner AK Entertainments and Surender 2 Cinema. Surender also co-wrote the screenplay for the film.

8. Acharya

Acharya is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language religious action drama film written and directed by Koratala Siva. It is produced by Matinee Entertainment and Konidela Production Company. The film stars Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, and Pooja Hegde.Touted to be a socio-political actioner, the plot revolves around a middle-aged Naxalite-turned-social reformer who launches a fight against the Endowments Department over the misappropriation of temple funds and donations.

9. Hari Hara Veera Mallu

After giving one of the highest Tamil Grosser of the year 2021 named Vakeel Saab, Pawan Kalyan aka Power Star will be seen next in a period-action adventure in the year 2022. It will be a pan-India film featuring Niddhi Agerwal, Arjun Rampal, and Jacqueline Fernandez. Hari Hara Veera Mallu is being helmed by Gabbar is Back director Krish Jagarlamudi. A Dayakar Rao is bankrolling the film along with A. M Ratnam. Reportedly the film will hit the theatres in Mid-2022 after Pawan’s other film Named Bheemla Nayak, which is releasing in Jan 2022.

10. Vikrant Rona

Director Ram Gopal Varma has hailed Kannada actor Kichcha Sudeepa’s upcoming film ‘Vikrant Rona’, calling it “absolutely marvelous”.The film has been making huge waves even before its release. Star Kiccha Sudeep will next be seen in Anup Bhandari’s directorial Vikrant Rona, which is also a screenplay written by Anup Bhandari. This big-ticket film is backed by Shalini Jack Manju and Alankar Pandian under the banner of Zee Studios and Kiccha Creations. Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez will also play a key role in the film.
