Who Is Pushpalatha? South Veteran Actress Passes Away At 87, Worked With Stars Like Kamal Haasan & Rajinikanth

Pushpalatha, the one of legendary actresses and a well-known face in South Indian cinema left heavenly abode on February 5, 2025 in Chennai at the age of 87, who had been battling health issues for some time. Her journey in the film industry spanned several decades with over 100 films to her credit across all the languages around South in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada cinema.

Pushpalatha ‘s Timeless Legacy!

Introducing to the world of cinema, Pushpalatha made her Tamil debut in Senkkottai Singam (1958) and later entered Malayalam cinema with Nurse (1969), directed by Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair. Some of her most notable films include Sarada, Paar Magaley Paar, Naanum Oru Penn, Thaaye Unakkaga, Kalyanaraman, Sakalakala Vallavan, and Simla Special. And she has acted alongside some of the legendary Tamil superstar actors like M.G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan earned her widespread recognition which remains unforgettable.

Not just limiting to the acting space, Pushpalatha was also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and interestingly explored film production too, backing two films. In 1964, she gained further visibility as the face of Lux soap advertisements.

Including her profession, her personal life was deeply connected to the industry as well. She met iconic actor and producer AVM Rajan while filming Naanum Oru Penn, and the two later even took their relationship to next level and got married. Being parent to two daughters, one of whom, Mahalakshmi, followed in her footsteps in Tamil cinema.

Her last silver screen appearance was in Poovasam (1999), directed by Sree Bharathi. After stepping away from the film industry, she chose a quiet life, dedicating her time to spirituality and social work.

With her passing, South Indian cinema has lost yet another veteran who contributed significantly to its golden era. The impact of her films and performances will continue to be remembered!
