Soorarai Pottru won five accolades at the 68th National Film Awards. The prestigious awards were announced on 22nd July 2022 in Delhi. The annual National Film Awards were presented by the Directorate of Film Festivals to honour the best films of 2020 in Indian cinema. The 10-member jury, led by filmmaker Vipul Shah, submitted its report to I&B Minister Anurag Thakur.
Tamil Film Soorarai Pottru starring Suriya won Best Feature Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Music Direction (Background Music) at the 68th National Film Awards. Suriya was overjoyed for winning so many titles from one film.
The Tamil actor who celebrates his 47th birthday today on 23rd July thanked family, fans, and colleagues for showering love and good wishes. As he bagged awards for Soorarai Pottru he took to social media to express heartfelt gratitude.
Suriya penned a heartfelt note as he won the best actor award at the 68th National Film Awards and the team of Soorarai Pottru won other awards in various categories. He started the letter with greetings in Tamil – Venakkam. He wrote: “My heartfelt thanks for all the love and good wishes that has reached us and enriched our lives so far We are ecstatic with the Five National awards for Soorarai Pottru. The overwhelming reception for our film which was released directly on OTT during a pandemic, has made our eyes well up in joy. Our happiness is doubled at this National recognition for Soorarai Pottru, as it is a testimony of Sudha Kongara’s many years of hardwork and creative vision of Captain Gopinath’s story.”

Suriya also thanked his wife Jyotika for encouraging him to do Soorarai Pottru. “My special thanks to my Jyotika, who insisted I should produce & act in Soorarai Pottru. My love and ‘Thank You’ to all those who have encouraged my efforts so far and to my Amma and Appa, Karthi and Brinda, who have supported me always. I dedicate this award to my kids Diya and Dev and to my loving family”
Soorarai Pottru is an action drama film directed by Sudha Prasad. The film stars Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, and Paresh Rawal in lead roles. The movie was released in 2020 and is now available online on Amazon Prime Video. The film is already on the cards to be remade in Hindi by Akshay Kumar.
