Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Shaakuntalam’s Box Office Collection Came Beginning To End Only On Day 1

Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Dev Mohan's Shakuntalam shows bad box office collection on the very first day itself.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Dev Mohan’s Shaakuntalam were released yesterday, on March 14, 2023. However, the film performed poorly on day one, earning only about Rs 5 crore. Shaakuntalam, directed by Gunasekhar, is a mythology-drama that is based on the well-known play Abhignyana Shakuntalam by Kalidasa. The film’s chances started looking gloomy on the Monday before its release when negative press screening evaluations began to come in.

Although the release of Shaakuntalam falls within the spectrum of Samantha’s solo films’ most recent openings, this is no ordinary effort. The movie is much larger than any of her prior solo projects. It’s bad news when high contributing centres are already experiencing huge decreases on day 2, especially for a movie that didn’t have a strong opening weekend.

The movie made about Rs 2.25 crores in its domestic market and about Rs 1.60 crores abroad, with North America being the main market. The remaining 45 lakhs came from other languages, bringing the total international box office receipts to approximately Rs. 4.80 and Rs. 5 crores. The film’s future tendencies remain to be observed.

The additional 45 lakhs came from other languages, giving the overall global box office revenue of between 4.80 and 5 crores. How the movie does going forward remains to be seen.

Following Shaakuntalam, she also has Kushi with Vijay Deverakonda and an Indian adaptation of Citadel.
