Known for her natural, makeup-free style and traditional attire, Sai Pallavi has often been hailed as a refreshing presence in Indian cinema. Her breakout role in Premam (2015), directed by Alphonse Puthren, showcased her embracing her natural look, acne and all, setting an example of authenticity on-screen. However, as she revealed in a recent podcast appearance on Fries With Potato, the actress dislikes it when people use her as a comparison to put down other women who choose to dress in modern style or present themselves differently.
Reflecting on this, Sai Pallavi explained that her own preferences in style are simply what make her comfortable, and she has never set out to influence or judge others based on her choices. Often seen wearing traditional clothing like sarees, she’s aware that she’s frequently referenced to criticize others who choose modern or revealing clothes, a practice she strongly disagrees with. “If someone feels comfortable dressing a certain way, that’s their choice. Comparing them unfavorably to me is not fair,” Sai Pallavi shared.
In the podcast, she also recalled an incident from her time studying medicine abroad in Georgia, when the success of Premam suddenly put her in the spotlight. She remembered doing Tango dance during her college days and how, soon after, her images of the film began circulating online. This unexpected attention in Georgia made her feel uncomfortable and led her to avoid the public eye as much as possible. “I will be not seen in public, where I want to be seen like an object something to excite yourself about,” she noted, explaining her decision to stay private was for her own comfort rather than setting any standards for others to follow.
Further giving an exmaple, Sai Pallavi also shared her concerns for young girls who face judgments for wearing shorts or other modern clothing. “If you’re comfortable, you are comfortable. Putting other people down because of what they’re comfortable wearing, I don’t think that is right,” she emphasized. Her honest perspective, she said, stems from her belief in letting people live without imposing personal standards.
Fans online have supported her statements, with Reddit users sharing a particular clip from the podcast and commending her stance. One user wrote, “Crystal clear explanation of what she actually wanted to convey!! I find her quite sensible, and she wants to grab a few good roles.” Another praised her sensibility, adding, “Sai Pallavi is the most sensible actress I’ve seen.” Another commented, “Oh !! Finally she spoke abt this .. a lot of men used to like her just for hating other actresses in the beginning”.
On the professional front, Sai Pallavi is currently gearing up for the release of her most-anticipated biographical film titled ‘Amaran’, where she will be seen as a wife of Major Mukund Varadarajan (played by Sivakarthikeyan), Indu Rebecca Varghese. The movie is set to hit theatres on October 31, 2024.
