The 50th International Film Festival of India will be held in Goa this year from 20-28 and over 200 films from across the world will be screened at the venue. It is announced that the festival will honour Superstar Rajinikanth with the Icon of Golden Jubilee of IFFI award for this year. This news was announced by Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Saturday.
Taking to Twitter the Minister tweeted, “In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, during the past several decades, I am happy to announce that the award for the ICON OF GOLDEN JUBILEE OF #IFFI2019 is being conferred on cine star Shri S Rajnikant.” He also told the media that he was happy to note that the actor had accepted the award.
Even Rajinikanth replied back to the minister’s wishes by saying, “I thank the government of India for this prestigious honour bestowed upon me on the golden jubilee of the International film festival of India.”
The Minister also announced that the French cinema icon Isabelle Hupert will be conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award for a Foreign Artiste. It is also confirmed that being it’s golden jubilee year, to acknowledge the contribution of women in cinema, Mr Javadekar revealed that the festival will screen 50 films by 50 female filmmakers. Also Amitabh Bachchan, who won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, his seven or eight films will also be showcased at the movie gala. Also, Russia will be the partner country at the festival this year.
