Ponniyin Selvan: Rajinikanth Wanted To Be A Part Of PS-1, Mani Ratnam Refused, Here’s Why

South superstar Rajinikanth reveals that he wanted to be part of the magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan, however, his request was ignored by Mani Ratnam.

The trailer launch and music launch of the much-anticipated Tamil film Ponniyin Selvan were held in Chennai on Tuesday. The whole cast of the film was witnessed at the trailer launch, while apart from the cast, South superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan also graced the event with their presence. During the trailer launch in Chennai, Rajinikanth revealed that he also wanted to be a part of the film, however, his request was denied by Mani Ratnam. Here’s why-

South megastar and Robot actor Rajinikanth marked his presence at the trailer launch of the much-anticipated film, Ponniyin Selvan, during the event the superstar revealed that he wanted to be a part of the magnum opus but his request was denied by the Ponniyin Selvan’s director Mani Ratnam.

As per a report in Indiatoday.in South superstar, Rajinikanth said, “I wanted to be part of Ponniyin Selvan. Asked Mani Ratnam to give me Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar. I said I’ll do a special appearance. Mani asked me ‘Do you want me to get bashed by your fans?’ Anyone else would have agreed, but Mani didn’t. That’s Mani Ratnam”,

Rajinikanth Recalls Asking For Help From Kamal Haasan To Shoot “Thalapathy”

During the trailer launch, the South superstar shared an interesting incident with the audience, recalling his first shooting experience for the famous Mani Ratnam’s film Thalapathy, he said, “I remember returning from Bombay to join the shoot. I asked for a makeup man and they said just wear foundation. The costume was loose pants and a loose shirt. I was surprised and I asked what this is?”

He further added, “She was a bully of sorts. She joked about how I’m going to be removed from the film and was going to be eventually replaced by Kamal. It was tough to act in the film. As an actor, I had a set of stock expressions. For love, I had some and similarly some for basic emotions. Mani didn’t accept any. I remember him telling me to feel. I asked what I should feel. I then called Kamal and said it’s really tough to act with this guy (Mani Ratnam). Kamal said, ‘I knew this would happen. He suggested that I ask Mani to act and just copy him. That call really worked. Thanks, Kamal”.
