Ponniyin Selvan 1 is a Tamil film starring Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The film was released in theatres on 30 September and clashed with the Hindi film Vikram Vedha. On Day 1, PS 1 earned Rs 78 crore globally. On the second day, the film crossed Rs 150 crore earning worldwide. On the first weekend, PS 1 reached a collection of Rs 230 crore. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted, “For the 3-day opening weekend, #PS1 has grossed more than ₹ 230 Crs+ at the WW Box office.”

On Monday, the film will enter 250 crore club. He also tweeted, “PS1 becomes the 1st Non-Rajini #Kollywood movie to enter the $4 Million club in USA..”

The film made a new record in the IMAX screens worldwide. Ramesh Bala informed via his tweet,”#PS1 record opening in @imax screens WW..At the International (Excluding North America) – All-time No.1 Opening for an Indian movie including UK, Singapore and Malaysia. All-time No.3 opening for an Indian movie in USA & WW Imax. All-time No.4 in India IMAX.”

Mani Ratnam’s directorial Ponniyin Selvan 1 is the adaptation of novelist Kalki Krishnamurthy’s five-part book of the same name. The period drama film is set in the 10th century.
