The Madras High Court has instructed actress Nayanthara to respond to a civil lawsuit filed by actor-producer Dhanush over the alleged unauthorized use of visuals from the 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her recently Netflix released documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale. The case also names her husband Vignesh Shivan, their production company Rowdy Pictures and Netlfix’s Indian partner, as per reports in Times of India.
The case running over few weeks now, it all started when Dhanush, through his production house Wunderbar Films Private Limited claimed that clips from the movie were used in the documentary without his proper permission. These visuals, according to Dhanush infringe upon his copyrights and caused damage to his production house, later he demanded Rs 10 crore from the actress. The issue then escalated after Dhanush issued a legal notice to Netflix, stating that no clearance had been sought for the footage.

Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, directed by Vignesh Shivan holds special place for the couple as it was where they first met and began dating. The film was highlighted in the Netflix documentary, which explores Nayanthara’s journey in the film industry and personal life.
Earlier, responding to the lawsuit, Nayanthara shared an open letter accusing Dhanush of overreacting and having personal motives. She argued that the visuals in question were shot using personal devices and did not require formal clearance. Dhanush in his suit described the letter as defamatory and maintained that the unauthorized use was intentional.
During a hearing on November 27 Justice Abdul Quiddhose asked Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, and others to address the accusations in the next hearing. The case continues to unfold, with both sides maintaining their stances.
