The legal battle between Tamil superstars Dhanush and Nayanthara has captured widespread attention. Following her open letter accusing Dhanush of seeking ₹10 crore in damages for using clips from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, Dhanush reacts through a strong legal notice issued by his lawyer.
Dhanush’s legal team firmly addressed Nayanthara’s claims, calling them “baseless” and demanding the removal of the allegedly infringing content within 24 hours. The statement highlighted that Dhanush, as the producer of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, holds full ownership of the footage including behind-the-scenes content.
“My client is the producer of the film, and they know where every penny has been spent on its production. Your client has alleged that no one was commissioned to shoot behind-the-scenes footage, but this claim is unsubstantiated and baseless,” the notice read.
The legal team noted that if the content was not removed within the stipulated time, Dhanush would be forced to initiate legal action, seeking ₹10 crore in damages from both Nayanthara and Netflix India.

The disagreement began when Nayanthara’s team tried obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to use clips from the 2015 film, which holds sentimental value for her and her husband, director Vignesh Shivan. Despite multiple attempts, Dhanush reportedly refused permission, citing copyright concerns.
In her letter, Nayanthara alleged that the refusal stemmed from personal differences rather than professional reasons. She expressed her frustration over how this resistance disrupted the narrative of her documentary, accusing Dhanush of double standards.
Coincidentally, the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale streams on Netflix today, November 18, marking her 40th birthday. Despite the ongoing legal battle, fans eagerly await the documentary’s release.
