Legendary south director Mani Ratnam is back almost two years, with his last film being ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’. The director is back now with his Magnum opus, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, perhaps Mani Ratnam’s one of the biggest projects to date. The historical period drama casts Aishwarya Rai along with other big stars from the Tamil industry, Jeyam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthik and Trisha helming the film too.
Since the news of the film broke out, the line of the casting of the film had grabbed a lot of attention, as each of the celebrities from the film enjoy their own fan base. The movie is one of the most anticipated movies in the industry and fans expected to see the teaser of the film that was slated to be launched at the Thanjavur temple, although the event got cancelled a the last moment.
The teaser launch event had great significance to director Mani Ratnam, as the temple was the capital of the Chola Dynasty, on which the film is based. For the unversed, the movie is based on the novel of the same name by author Kalki Krishnamoorthy, which revolves around the life of Vandiyathevan, and is based on the theme of the glory days of the Chola Kingdom that proposed around the banks of the river Cauvery.

As for Aishwarya, the actress will be seen playing the antagonist, the character of Mandakini/Nandini, Vikram is Aditya Karikalan, Jayaram Ravi is Arulmozhi Varman, Karthi is Vandhiuathevan, Trisha is Kundhavi, Aishwarya Lekshmi is Poonguzhali, Sobhita is Vaanathi, Sarath Kumar is Periya Paluvetarayar, Parthiban is Chinna Paluvetarayar, Lal is Malayamaan, Jayaram is Azhwarkadiyan Nambi, Prabhu is Anirudha Bhramarayar. Kishore as Ravidhasan and Riyaz Khan as Soman Sambavan will be seen on the big screen.

The shooting of the film however is completed, according to several media reports and the post-production is in full swing. Even before its theatrical release, the film’s OTT right has been finalized with giant streaming platform Amazon, for both the instalments of the film. Apparently, the streaming rights have been sold for a whopping 125 crores for both parts 1 and 2 of the film. While the budget of the film is said to be around 500 crores, 15% of the biggest is already acquired by the producer through the selling of the streaming rights to Amazon.
Another media worth suggested that an Audio launch event is soon to be held in a foreign location, as the music score is produced by AR Rahman in the film.
