The Tamil film industry has been buzzing after Nayanthara’s recent open letter to Dhanush amidst a fight with Dhanush over her Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. The issue arose when Dhanush refused permission to use clips from their 2015 film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, demanding ₹10 crore in damages. Nayanthara addressed the matter in a strongly worded letter, accusing him of vindictive behavior and questioning his actions.
Amid this public spat, Nayanthara’s husband, director Vignesh Shivan, shared a heartfelt note on her birthday. Taking to Instagram, he expressed pride in her courage, calling her his “uyir” (soul) and writing, “Happy birthday my uyir…My respect for you is million times more than the love I have for you! For who you are my thangamey! @nayanthara” while sharing a glimpse of himself watching her documentary, adding a personal touch to his message.
Naanum Rowdy Dhaan holds a special place in Nayanthara and Vignesh’s lives, as they met on the film’s set where she played the lead, and he directed. However, Dhanush who produced the film declined to grant a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to include visuals from the movie in her documentary.

Vignesh’s birthday tribute came at a crucial time, showcasing his unwavering support for Nayanthara during the fight with Dhanush. His words celebrated her boldness, especially in standing up for her creative freedom.
