Amruta Khanvilkar To Play Athlete Lalita Shivaji Babar

The sports biopic will arrive in cinemas exactly one year from now i.e. January 26, 2024.

Amruta Khanvilkar is all set to play the role of Indian long distance runner Lalita Shivaji Pawar in her Marathi biopic. The makers officially announced the project by sharing the film’s poster on January 26. The poster shows Amruta holding the Indian flag. The sports biopic will arrive in cinemas exactly one year from now i.e. January 26, 2024.

Speaking about playing the role of Lalita Babar, Amruta shared: “I have never been so excited to play a role like I am for this biopic. Lalita’s life is an inspiration for all sportspeople and women, who showcase indomitable strength and move ahead in life fearlessly.”

“It is challenging and physically demanding to play a sportswoman, especially a runner. I am looking forward to starting shooting for the film and doing hundred percent justice to this role. My aim will be to bring her emotions and thoughts behind the tough exterior to audiences and make her journey as relevant as possible to citizens of our country,” she added.

Sharing his thoughts on the film announcement, national award winner Akshay Bardapurkar, Founder and Producer, of Planet Marathi shared “We have worked with Amruta in the past and she is an excellent actor who leaves no stone unturned to give her best to any role she plays. This film will be our first sports film and first-ever biopic and our team is putting in tremendous effort to make the film a huge success.”

For the unversed, 33-year old Lalita Pawar from the drought-prone Satara district in Maharashtra, began her career in athletics as a long-distance runner at a young age. She won her first Gold medal in the U-20 National Championships at Pune in 2005. Babar won the gold medal at the 2015 Asian Championships. She became the only second Indian woman after P.T. Usha in 1984 to qualify for the finals for the Olympics.

Meanwhile Amruta was last seen in historical action drama Har Har Mahadev (2022). The actress is awaiting the release of her upcoming romantic drama Autograph where she will be seen opposite Ankush Chaudhari.

The film is produced by Akshay Vilas Bardapurkar, Rishi Negi, Gaurav Gokhale and Ronita Mitra. The rest of the details of the film will soon be revealed by the makers.
