Malia Obama has turned 24 years old, and her father, Barack Obama, is overjoyed! On Monday, July 4 Malia’s birthday, the former President tweeted a touching flashback photo of him hugging a then-baby Malia. Malia looked just like her mother, Michelle Obama, in the shot, where she was dressed in a fluffy purple sleeper and striped bib while her father smiled lovingly at her.
“Happy birthday, Malia! No matter how sophisticated, accomplished, beautiful, and gracious a young woman you’ve become you’ll always be my baby,” Barack Obama wrote. “And I will always be here to lift you up.” Mom Michelle also shared a sweet baby picture and a touching tribute. “Happy birthday, Malia and Happy Fourth of July, everybody!” she wrote alongside a photo of her holding Malia as a baby.
“24 years ago, this day became extra special when your wonderful spirit arrived in this world. I’m so proud of the beautiful, caring, and driven young woman you’ve become. I love you so, so much! Love, your Mommy.” Michelle Obama, who shares Malia and Sasha Obama with Barack, remarked on how much their children have grown during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in April 2020. “They have grown up right before our very eyes and they’re doing well,” she shared.
They have much to be proud of: after graduating from the prestigious Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., Malia went on to study at Harvard University, much like her parents. She graduated with honours from the Bachelor of Arts in Visual and Environmental Studies programme in May 2021 and has since pursued a career as a writer.
Malia secured a job with Donald Glover on one of his new projects after interning with Lena Dunham on Girls. In an interview last year, Glover, better known as Childish Gambino, had nothing but kind things to say about the former First Daughter. Glover said to Vanity Fair, “She’s really focused, and she’s working really hard… I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon. Her writing style is great.”
