37-year-old tourist murdered, his wife raped in rented beach house in Brazil

A 37-year-old Lithuanian tourist was murdered and his wife was allegedly raped at a rented residence on a remote beach in Brazil's Paraty. Police officials said that a 37-year-old suspect, who is a resident of Paraty, had been arrested.

A Lithuanian tourist has been murdered and his partner allegedly raped at a rented residence on a remote beach in Brazil, police have said.

The body of Adam Zindul, 37, was found by police following an attack in Praia do Sono, near the popular seaside town of Rio de Janeiro, on Thursday.

Mr Zindul’s wife, who was taken to Paraty Municipal Hospital, told Brazilian police that she had been raped during the attack and is currently being kept under observation.

Following the attack, police confirmed that a 37-year-old suspect, who is a resident of Paraty, had been arrested.

Authorities did not comment on a possible motive for the attack, or provide other details.

According to Brazilian TV news channel Globo, Mr Zindul and his Brazilian wife had rented a house in the remote beach of Praia do Sono, on the Green Coast of Rio de Janeiro, which can only be accessed by boat or trail through the jungle.

The news channel said the tourist was found by police with his arms and legs tied to a chair and several wound marks on his body.

He had been gagged, beaten and killed by the attacker on Wednesday night.

A police report has now been opened by the Paraty Civil Police and an investigation is underway.

After investigations are completed at the crime scene, Mr Zindul’s body will be taken to the Legal Medical Institute.

Praia do Sono is 26km from Paraty, a picturesque town with cobbled streets and colonial-style houses.

The beach, which can only be accessed by foot or boat, is popular among tourists and residents of Rio de Janeiro, a few hours drive away, and has a number of houses for rent and camping areas.
