They defeated South Korea’s Wonho Lee and Ye Jin Oh with a score of 16-10. This achievement was particularly notable for Manu Bhaker, who became the first Indian woman to win two medals in a single Olympics, having previously secured a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event on July 28.

Who Is Manu Bhaker?

Born on February 18, 2002, in Goria village, Jhajjar district, Haryana, Manu Bhaker demonstrated early talent in sports such as boxing, tennis, and skating before concentrating on shooting. Her father, Ramkrishna Bhaker, a Chief Engineer in the Merchant Navy, supported her early training with significant financial backing.

Manu Bhaker clinched a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games when she was only 16 years old, making her the youngest Indian to achieve this feat. She continued to excel at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup, securing multiple gold medals in events such as the 10m air pistol and mixed team competitions.

Later in 2018, Manu Bhaker made history by winning gold in the Women’s 10m air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, becoming the youngest Indian to achieve this milestone. She also set a new record at the Commonwealth Games in the women’s 10m air pistol event with a score of 240.9 points.

In 2019, Manu Bhaker earned several gold medals in the 10m air pistol mixed team events at various ISSF World Cups, teaming up with different partners. She also played a key role in securing the team gold for India in the women’s 25m pistol event at the 2022 Asian Games.
