India is set to play its first-ever day-night Test match as Cricket Australia announced on Thursday the framework for a four-Test series against India and an inaugural Test against Afghanistan. Following a one-off test against Afghanistan in Perth from November 21-25, Australia will begin a four-match Test series against India in Brisbane on December 3.

The second Test, scheduled from December 11-15, will be a day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval. The third test will begin at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on December 26, while the fourth and final test will be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7, 2021.

Former Australian skipper Ian Chappell had earlier said that Australia’s attempt to play a day-night Test against India “may backfire.” He said that Virat Kohli’s Test team has a strong bowling attack.

Chappel had hinted Test series between India and Australia earlier, he had said, “Cricket Australia is contemplating two day-night Tests for the 2020-21 Indian tour.”

He further added, “However, if that ploy is meant to advantage Australia, it may backfire as India have a strong attack and (Virat) Kohli has already shown he’s adept at captaincy in this part of the world.”

India played their first-ever pink-ball test earlier this year at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens where they clinched an emphatic victory over Bangladesh. Captain Kohli was questioned after that test about the possibility of playing a Day / Night Test during next year’s Australia tour and he said that he was “open to do anything” as long as there was a practice match under the lights.
