Also included in the squad is Shubman Gill who will take on South Africa in India’s last international series before the Indian Premier League kicks off.

Hardik underwent surgery five months ago following a lower-back injury while Dhawan suffered a shoulder injury at home in an ODI series against Australia.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma was kept out of the mix with the limited-overs, as the vice-captain still recovering from a calf injury he suffered during New Zealand tour at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. They also dropped Kedar Jadhav from the squad.

India was outplayed against New Zealand in their last ODI series, where they got whitewashed 0-3 in the 50-over format.

On the other hand, after their recent series sweep over Australia at home, South Africa will be highly confident. Janneman Malan who impressed everyone by playing his first ODI series was also added to the South African squad that will travel to India.
