Lionel Messi stated that a few in Barcelona are not too happy about Neymar returning back to the team and are opposing a reunion with PSG star. Neymar to bid farewell to Nou Camp in 2017 amid controversial circumstances moved to PSG for a world-record fee.
The Prodigal son, Neymar who is now rumoured to return back to Spain this summer, Messi thinks that given the manner of the original switch may worsen things in future. Messi said, “It is difficult to bring him back. Firstly, because it was difficult to see him leave, secondly because of how he left. There are people from the club and the members who do not want him to return. If it is for sports, Ney is one of the best in the world, but I understand all the other factors.”
Though Neymar scored 51 goals in 58 matches for PSG, he attempted to engineer a move away this summer. This desire to move angered many PSG supporters and is yet to win their favour despite several match-winning moments of magic this term.
Messi also admitted that Real Madrid would swoop for Neymar after Barcelona opted out of the race for his signature. He said, “I really thought Neymar would go to Real Madrid if he didn’t come here. He really wanted to leave Paris and he’d shown it. And I thought that Florentino [Perez] and Real Madrid were going to do something to sign him.”
Neymar is currently sitting out as he recovers from a hamstring strain in Brazil’s draw with Nigeria and will not be seen in action for the next four weeks.
