India Beats Sri Lanka By 90 Runs In The Under-19 World Cup Opener Game

India begins its 2020 Under-19 World Cup campaign by defeating Sri Lanka for 90 runs.

The “Boys in Blue” have made it to the headlines after winning the opening game against Sri Lanka. Impressive batting performances and disciplined bowling attack are the key factors which contributed to team India’s 90 runs victory over the Lankans. They surely have marked their presence as the Defending Champions in this U-19 World Cup Tournament by this win.

After winning the toss Sri Lankan U-19 skipper, Nipun Dananjaya asked the Indian team to bat first. In their batting innings, team India scored a competitive total of 297 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of only 4 wickets.

The young Indian batsmen- Yashasvi Jaiswal and  Tilak Varma played brilliant knocks after the early dismissal of Divyansh Saxena. Tilak Varma scored 47 runs off 53 balls before giving away his wicket to the right-arm medium pacer, Amshi de Silva.

Varma’s dismissal invited skipper Priyam Garg on the crease, who then played some amazing strokes along with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both Priyam and Yashasvi scored half-centuries to help team India get back on track after the loss of wickets. There was also a significant contribution from Vice-captain Dhruv Jurel (52 off 48 balls) and all-rounder Siddhesh Veer (44 off 27 balls), which cruised team India to put up a total close to the 300-run mark.

Later on, the Indian bowlers proved to be troublesome for the Lankans and bowled them out for 207 runs in 45.2 overs.

Fast bowler, Kartik Tyagi bowled 7.2 overs by giving only 27 runs and also grabbed one crucial wicket. Even Siddhesh Veer, who did well with the bat, also had his luck with the ball and snatched two wickets in 6 overs.

The Lankan skipper Nipun Dananjaya scored a fifty but he wasn’t able to drag his team out of the losing condition.

 With much more momentous contribution by other bowlers, team India thrashed their South Asian neighbors in all departments of the game with a truly phenomenal professional performance.

With many of these young players soon to be playing in the upcoming season of IPL, their respective teams were open to celebrate their performances.

Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi who took 2/44 in 10 overs will be donning Kings XI Punjab colors in IPL, got some heartwarming wishes from them.

Skipper Priyam Garg also got compliments showered upon him by his IPL Team, Sunrisers Hyderabad for his excellent leadership and performance with the bat.

The Player of the Match was awarded to Siddhesh Veer for his all-round performance.
