A top official on Friday said that there was less hope about this year’s T20 World Cup to take place in Australia amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, India’s cricket team is ready to undergo quarantine in order to rescue a money-spinning Test series against Australia.

The Men in Blue led by Virat Kohli are scheduled for a four-match Test series against the Aussies towards the end of this year. But as a precautionary measure, they will need to isolate themselves for 2-weeks due to the on-going coronavirus scare.

Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) treasurer Arun Dhumal said that the Test team was willing to make the sacrifice to save the series, which cash-strapped Cricket Australia urgently requires to replenish its funds.

Dhumal said, "There is no choice - everyone will have to do that (quarantine). You would want to resume the cricket.” He further added that two weeks of lockdown isn’t big of a thing.

This month, Australia dethroned India as the top-ranking Test team in the world, setting up the series as a rivalry for the champions.

The series will, therefore, raise hundreds of millions of dollars for a host organization that is suffering during the shutdown of coronavirus.

Cricket Australia's income from the series is so significant that it has suggested adding a fifth test, which would mean a one-off test against Afghanistan in November.

Dhumal said it was "too early" to make a call on extending the Test series, suggesting Indian broadcasters would prefer more limited-overs matches instead because they generate more money.

Whilst allowing the Indian team to enter the country for a bilateral series would be fairly straightforward for Australia's government, Dhumal said staging the 16-nation T20 World Cup was another matter.

He also raised concerns whether the elite players will be ready till October for the tournament.
