Raheem Sterling has been axed from England's European Championship qualifier against Montenegro after his angry row with Liverpool's Joe Gomez. It seemed like Sterling attempted to grab Gomez by the neck towards the end of Liverpool's 3-1 win over Premier League title rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

It is now confirmed that Sterling would not be considered for selection against Montenegro. Though he will stay in the squad, but will not play against Kosovo on Sunday. The statement read, "The FA can confirm Raheem Sterling will not be considered for Thursday's EURO 2020 qualifier against Montenegro as a result of a disturbance in a private team area at St. George's Park today. He will remain with the squad."

Sterling also apologized to Gomez and the squad after the fallout, and it is reported that they accepted his apology. On his Instagram stories, he shared a message that read, "We are in a sport where emotions run high and I am man enough to admit when emotions got the better of me. Both Joe and I have had words and figured things out and moved on."

The cause of Sterling's anger is yet unclear but is it reported that they may have reacted badly to being widely lampooned on social media after being termed as second best physically in his first confrontation with Gomez.

England will play against Montenegro on Thursday at Wembley and on winning they will secure a place at Euro 2020, before heading to Pristina to face Kosovo on Sunday.
