Pakistan Cricket Board Bans Umar Akmal For 3 Years

Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal has been handed a three-year ban from all formats and forms of cricket by Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) disciplinary panel. The decision was announced on Monday after Umar Akmal was found guilty of failing to report a spot-fixing approach in Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Talking about the spot-fixing charges, the 29-year old batsman decided not to appeal against the corruption charges levied against him, earlier this month. It led to the board referring his case to its disciplinary panel for further decision. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took to Twitter to announce that the disciplinary committee headed by Justice (retired) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan has handed over the batsman with a three-year band.

The Pakistan Cricket Board wrote on tweeted, "Umar Akmal handed a three-year ban from all cricket by Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel Mr. Justice (retired) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan.”

Umar Akmal was suspended for the time being n February 20, the day when Pakistan Super League (PSL) began.

The PCB announced that Akmal has violated its ‘anti-corruption code’ on two counts. The PCB release read, "The PCB has charged Umar Akmal with two breaches of the anti-corruption code which relates to not reporting a fixing offer.”

Under the PCB anti-corruption code, a player is expected to report to a team manager or to the anti-corruption unit officials immediately after receiving an offer to fix a match. The release added that under the code if a player is found guilty the punishment ranges from a six-month suspension to a lifetime ban.

The 29-year-old, who last played for Pakistan in October has featured in 16 Tests, 121 ODIs, and 84 T20Is. His last international appearance came four months ago during the Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Sri Lanka where he failed to open his account in both games.
