The just-concluded ICC U19 World Cup final between India and Bangladesh will go down as one of the best in the history of the competition. In a low-scoring thriller, both the teams gave their all before Bangladesh clinched the game. Defending champions and four-time winners, India were the favourites for the clash against Bangladesh who were playing their first final.

Opener Parvez Hossain Emon and skipper Akbar Ali rose to the occasion and played crucial knocks to help Bangladesh overcome the 170-run target with 23 balls to spare. Emon top-scored for Bangladesh with a 79-ball 47 while the captain and wicketkeeper Akbar Ali was not out on 43 from 77 deliveries. The target was revised to 170 runs after rain interrupted. Chasing a modest 178, Bangladesh were 163 for 7 after 41 overs when rain stopped play.

At that point, Bangladesh were 18 runs ahead in terms of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) par score which is 145. Bangladesh’s chase started in a stunning manner as their openers added 50 runs in quick time before Ravi Bishnoi took four wickets to turn the match on its head. Bangladesh soon found themselves 6 down for 102. But before India could make further inroads in the game, Akbar Ali made sure to take the team home.

Earlier, India’s batsmen failed to do well as the Boys in Blue were all out for just 177. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was the standout performer once again, scoring 88. But barring him, no other players managed to deliver as the team was all out for a modest total. India suffered an inexplicable collapse after Yashasvi Jaiswal departed. They lost their last seven wickets for just 21 runs to be all out for 177 from 156 for 3.

The fight:

Meanwhile, players from both sides did not refrain from letting their emotions get the better of them. Right from the start of the game, the Bangladesh players tried to get under the skin of the Indian players which eventually led to ugly scenes in the end. As Bangladesh were celebrating the win, an ugly physical altercation took place between the players right in the middle of the field.

According to reports, Bangladesh players passed unwelcome comments on Indian players which triggered an altercation between both sets of parties. But fortunately, the matter was brought under control soon.
