Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday postponed the T20 World Cup. In a virtual board meet on Monday, ICC made deliberate discussions on the fate of the tournament and eventually decided to call it off for this month.

The T20 World Cup was to be hosted by Australia later this year and ICC has stated that the ticket bought by the fans for the now-postponed tournament will remain valid if Australia hosts the edition in 2021 instead of India.

ICC also clarified that if the event further gets postponed to 2022, all ticket holders will be entitled to a full refund. However, ICC has not yet announced which country will host which edition as there are certain operational issues that both Boards need to sort out.

Meanwhile, ICC has opened ticket booking through their ticketing partners and a significant number of tickets have already been sold.

Fans can retain their tickets for the tournament until a date has been confirmed for the event. The ticket holder can send a refund request until December 15, 2020, and they will be processed within 30 days after online submission.

The hospitality package for the tournament will also remain valid for the 2021 fixture.

The news of the postponement of the T20 World Cup doesn’t come as a surprise because, in the month of May, Cricket Australia chairman already had said that hosting the tournament this year is unlikely.
