Former Australia coach Darren Lehmann will undergo a heart surgery on Saturday after suffering a chest pain on his 50th birthday on Wednesday.

The former Test batsman was on Gold Coast to watch his son Jake Lehmann captain the Cricket Australia XI against the touring England Lions while he suffered from sudden chest pain.

Cricket Australia said that he is currently resting in a hospital in Brisbane and will undergo a heart bypass surgery on Saturday.

In a statement, Lehmann said, “I would like to thank everyone in the Australian cricket family for their concern.”

“I am receiving the best of medical care and I am confident I will be back on my feet soon”, Lehmann who coaches the Brisbane Heat in Australia’s Big Bash T20 League added in his statement.

Talking about Darren Lehmann, he has played 27 Tests and 117 ODIs for Australia from 1998 to 2005. He announced his retirement from international cricket in 2007. He was also the coach of IPL teams Deccan Chargers from 2009 to 2012 and Kings XI Punjab in 20013.

Lehmann became the coach of Australia’s National team after Mickey Arthur stepped down from his position before the 2013 Ashes series.

He led Australia to many victories before stepping down in 2018 after the ball-tampering scandal emerged in the news. He was originally thought to have been involved in the scandal; however after further investigations Cricket Australia cleared me off the accusations.
