India’s Vartika Singh enters top 20 at Miss Universe 2019 pageant

Vartika Singh, the 26-year-old who is representing India at Miss Universe 2019 pageant, has made it among the top 20 semi-finalists in the contest being held in Atlanta, Georgia, US. Other countries that have made it to the top 20 include Mexico, Philippines, France, South Africa and Thailand.

The 2019 Miss Universe beauty pageant took place on Sunday in Atlanta, the capital of the US state of Georgia. For the unversed, Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi won the pageant. Speaking of the runners-up, Miss Puerto Rico Madison Anderson received the second place while Miss Mexico Sofía Aragón is the second-runner up. Unfortunately, India’s Vartika Singh failed to reach the top 10. The beauty pageant is also trending because of some other reason as well. Steve Harvey, who had earlier made a blunder while announcing the winner in the year 2015, made a mistake this year as well.

Harvey introduced the winner of the national costume contest wrong. After showing a photo of Miss Philippines Gazini Ganados and declaring her the winner of the round and he introduced the wrong contestant on stage. Speaking of Zozibini, she is from Tsolo, South Africa and has been actively fighting against gender-based violence. Her bio states, “She has devoted her social media campaign to change the narrative around gender stereotypes. She is a proud advocate for natural beauty and encourages women to love themselves the way they are.”

There were 90 finalists competing for the title and there were several rounds including swimsuit, evening gown, and QNA. The question that was asked to Miss South Africa was, “What is the most important thing you should be teaching young girls today?” Also, this year each contestant was given an opportunity to make a final statement as well.
