UP CM announces ₹50L, job to 1 family member of martyred Colonel Ashutosh Sharma

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced ₹50 lakh and a job for a family member of martyred Colonel Ashutosh Sharma. Colonel Sharma was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in J&K on Sunday. UP Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said ₹40 lakh will be given to Colonel's wife and ₹10 lakh will be given to his mother.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced Rs 50 lakh for the kin of Colonel Ashutosh Sharma who made the supreme sacrifice for the country during a counter-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara.

A police sub-inspector and three other Army personnel laid down their lives during the joint operation conducted by the Indian Army and J&K Police in Handwara’s Changimulla area on Saturday.

Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Avanish Awasthi, in a press briefing today said Rs 40 lakh will be given to martyred Colonel’s wife and Rs 10 lakh will be given to his mother.  

Colonel Sharma was a resident of Syana in UP’s Bulandshahr town though his family now lives in Jaipur in Rajasthan.

Adityanath also announced a government job for one member of the bereaved family. He said that a ‘Gaurav Dwar’ would be constructed in the village of the Army officer.

Apart from Colonel Sharma, the commanding officer of Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles battalion in the Rajwar area of Handwara tehsil, Army Major Anuj Sood, rifleman Naik Rajesh, Lance Naik Dinesh, and a J&K police officer Shakeel Qazi were martyred.

The brave Jawans were able to rescue civilians who were taken hostage by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists but came under heavy gunfire leading to their deaths. 

Several terrorists including a LeT commander Haider were reportedly killed in the operation.

“Four Indian Army personnel including the Commanding Officer, Major of 21 Rashtriya Rifles unit along with two soldiers and one Jammu and Kashmir Police jawan lost their lives in an encounter in Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir,” Army officials said, the news agency reported.
