India Crosses 1 Lakh Covid-19 Cases

India becomes the world's 11th country to report 100k coronavirus cases.

India crossed one lakh cases of Covid-19 on May 19 in 109 days after the first person was tested positive in India. On Monday, around 4.970 fresh cases were detected taking the total tally to 1,01,139 cases. With this, India has become 11th country to cross 1 Lakh mark. 

In the last 12 days, the number of infected cases has doubled up. But the good news is that the number of people recovering from the virus is steadily rising. With 38,908 cases recovered till May 18 so far, the recovery rate is 38.8%. And with total deaths of around 3,103, India’s death rate due to virus is 3.1%.

The country has entered phase 4 of the lockdown but the number of cases is rising indicating that the infection is yet to peak. With a few eas and relaxations in Lockdown 4.0. the Health Ministry has issued guidelines to prevent the speed of infection at workplaces with shared spaces like Corridors, elevators, parking places, elevators, conference halls etc. The Ministry has recommended physical distancing of at least one metre to be followed at all times. Necessary precautions like washing hands on regular intervals, covering face with masks and using hand sanitisers are prescribed. 

“This involves the strict practice of covering one’s mouth and nose while coughing/sneezing with a tissue/handkerchief/flexed elbow and disposing of used tissues properly and self-monitoring of health by all and reporting any illness at the earliest,” said the MInistry. 

The United States Of America has reported maximum number of Coronavirus cases surpassing Italy and China. USA reported 1.54 million positive cases followed by Russia with 291k cases on 2nd spot.
