The Maratha Rule
Born on 19th February 1630, Shivaji Maharaj’s birth took place in Shivneri Fort. Many Maratha rulers came before Shivaji Maharaj but he stays alive in everyone’s heart till now because he was the one who carved the Maratha Empire from its ruins by defeating the declining Adilshahi Sultanate. This incident marked the start of the Maratha Empire.
At the tender age of 16, Shivaji Maharaj seized the Toma fort and till the time he turned 17 he had already seized the Raigad and Kondhana forts. Popularly known as Shivaji Maharaj, his real name was Shivaji Bhonsle and he was a member of the Bhonsle Maratha clan.

The Maratha Clan was clattered before Shivaji Maharaj’s reign. The King who is known for his military and civil administration skills, was not only the creator of the Maratha Kingdom but also played an important role in uniting the Maratha chiefs of Mayal, Konkan, and Desh region.

Shivaji Maharaj was honored with the title of Chhatrapati for his bravery and smartness. The title is equivalent to King. It means the Lord of Parasol, means the one who sits beneath the umbrella of greatness. The title Chhatrapati is still used by Shivaji’s descendants.
