Amid Lockdown: Govt relaxes rules to enable work from home for IT companies till Dec 31

The Department of Telecommunications has further extended rules for IT and ITeS companies to enable their employees to work from home till December 31 amid the coronavirus pandemic. The earlier order for relaxations was expiring on July 31.

In wake of the pandemic, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on Tuesday stretched out till 31 December the unwinding in telecommute (WFH) standards for other specialist co-ops (OSPs), including the IT division. This is the subsequent expansion given to OSPs, principally IT and IT-empowered administrations firms, to encourage WFH in the midst of the Coronavirus-drove limitations.

Speck had first declared unwinding in WFH rules in April, when India was under an exacting lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19, and later broadened the date till 31 July. 

"Spot has additionally broadened the relaxations in the terms and conditions for other specialist organizations (OSPs) up to 31 December 2020, to encourage telecommute taking into account the continuous worries due to #COVID19," the DoT said in a Twitter post.

Industry pioneers praised the DoT's choice that will empower IT organizations to permit their representatives to telecommute till the finish of 2020.

"Much thanks to you to the legislature for their colossal help on the better approaches for working from the very first moment. This has helped hugely in further raising our standing and responsiveness all around," IT major Wipro executive Rishad Premji said on Twitter.

Significant Indian IT organizations, including Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, Wipro Ltd, and Infosys Ltd had moved 90% of their workforce to telecommute, as indicated by information discharged in April by industry body National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom). The business normal remained at 70%, Nasscom said.

Nasscom president Debjani Ghosh said thanks to the DoT and telecom and IT serve Ravi Shankar Prasad for their "solid help for Indian IT".
