10 infants die within month in hospital in Rajasthan's Bundi

At least 10 infants died in the month of December last year in a hospital in Rajasthan's Bundi. The administration said that the deaths didn't occur due to their irresponsibility.

Even as probe continues into the deaths of over 100 infants at Rajasthan JK Lone Hospital, there have been reports of 10 infant deaths at a hospital in Bundi district of the state.

The death of 10 babies took place in just one month in December last year. The matter came to light after Additional District Collector visited the hospital in Bundi.

According to a report, the hospital authorities claimed the infant deaths took place due to various reasons and that there was no negligence on their part.

According to Hitesh Soni, duty-in charge at the hospital, "Ten infant deaths took place at the hospital due to various ailments. Some of the babies were referred to this hospital from other places. While some babies had breathing problems, others were underweight. While a few others had consumed contaminated water. Some of the infants were already in a critical condition and hence deaths occurred."

Meanwhile, Additional District Collector (ADC) has directed hospital authorities to ensure cleanliness at the hospital to prevent any contamination.

Earlier, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had ordered a high-level inquiry into the death of infants at Kota's JK Lone Hospital. The chief minister had directed Rajasthan's Medical Education Secretary Vaibhav Galariya to submit a report into the issue.

Galariya had said action will be taken against those responsible for the negligence only after the probe report was submitted.

In the last week of December 2019, 12 infants die at JK Lone hospital located in Kota-Bundi constituency parliamentary represented by Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla.  Earlier, a report by JK Lone Hospital superintendent said that a total of 940 infants had died in 2019.

Lok Sabha speaker, Om Birla, under whose constituency the hospital falls took to Twitter to express his concern about the infant deaths and urged Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to act "sensitively" on the issue.
