Arnab Goswami has been arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of interior designer Anvay Naik. The 53 year old committed suicide with his mother at their bungalow in Alibaug on May 2018.
In his suicide note Anvay had claimed that Arnab Goswami along with two others owed him more that 5 crore rupees. He said that around 83 lakh rupees were due to him by Republic TV.
The police had found a suicide not written in English in which Anvay said he and his mother decided to take the extreme step on account of payments due to them not being cleared by the owners of three companies – television journalist Arnab Goswami of Republic TV, Feroz Shaikh of IcastX/Skimedia and Niteish Sarda of Smartworks.
An officer said that during investigation they found that Naik was under heavy debt and was struggling to repay money to contractors.
The case was closed by the local Raigad police in April 2019 due to lack of evidence against all parties including Goswami.
However, Anvay’s daughter approached the Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in May this year to reopen the case.
Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had tweeted in May, “Adnya Naik had complained to me that Alibaug Police had not investigated non-payment of dues from Arnab Goswami’s public which drover her entrepreneur father and grandma to suicide in May 2018. I’ve ordered a CID re-investigation of the case.”
Naik’s daughter Adnya has alleged that the police did not investigate the 83 lakh angle that Goswami owed her father.
The case has been transferred to the CID in May this year. The court that had closed the case has given the orders to Raigad police to reopen it.
The Maharashtra police will now be questioning Arnab Goswami and after the investigation they will either release him or file a chargesheet against him.
The Suicide Case
The Interior Designer Anvay Naik committed suicide in May 2018 along with his mother, Kumud Naik.
While Anvay had committed suicide, post mortem reports suggest that his mother bad died of strangulation.

The Raigad police has speculated that Anvay killed his mother before killing himself. The mother was found on ground floor while Anvay was found hanging on the first floor. They were found by the caretaker of the bungalow.
