Google Photos to let users find pics, videos using the interactive map

Google Photos will let users explore photos and videos that they have taken by location using the 'map view'. Users will find the map view in a new Search Tab and can use an interactive map to find their pictures.

Search engine giant Google has announced a new logo and major design changes for Google Photos focussed on your old pictures and memories. This new layout will be rolled out in the next week for both Android and iOS devices.

The app has received a new simplified UI with three tabs structure – Photos, Search and Library. The Photos, as always, is the main tab which contains all your photos and videos with larger thumbnails, auto-playing videos, and less white space between photos while the Search tab has now front and centre to give you quick access to the people, places, and things. The library tab, on the other hand, contains Albums, Favorites, Trash, Archive, and more.

There is also a new interactive map view that will be visible as part of the new search tab. “You can pinch and zoom around the globe to explore photos of your travels, see where you’ve taken the most photos around your hometown, or find that one photo from somewhere on your road trip across the country,” the company noted in an official blog post. If you want to make changes, you can turn off Location History and camera location permission.

Google had last year introduced Memories to help you revisit your memories from years past. The company says it has become one of the most popular features, with more than 120 million people viewing Memories every month. You will now be able to explore more types of Memories, like the best pictures of you and your closest friends and family over the years, trips, and even just the highlights from last week.
