Australia takes the global lead in testing people for COVID-19: PM Scott Morrison

Australia has taken the global lead in terms of testing people for the coronavirus as over 1% of the country's population has been tested, PM Scott Morrison said. "We are the first country...that has been able to exceed that mark," he added.

Australia has taken the global lead in terms of testing people for coronavirus.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the testing rate had risen to more than 1000 tests per 100,000 population or one per cent of the population.

“We are the first country to the best of our knowledge that has been able to exceed that mark,” Morrison said.

The coronavirus testing criteria has been relaxed to allow more people to be tested for the virus as community transmission continues to grow.

New South Wales opened a pop-up free COVID-19 testing facility in Bondi on Thursday in response to the growing number of positive coronavirus cases in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
