BMC building given to hospital group being used as ‘guesthouse’

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) three-storey building Gokuldham Maternity Home and Dispensary in Goregaon, supposed to be a 65-bed paediatric hospital, is being used as a 'guesthouse'. "This is shameful and serious negligence by civic staff," said a local BJP corporator Priti Satam.

While the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is spending crores of rupees on setting up medicinal services offices to battle Covid-19, its three-story building held for wellbeing offices in Goregaon is being utilized as a ‘guesthouse’.

Around one and half years back, the BMC under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) had given over a three-story building Gokuldham Maternity Home and Dispensary in Goregaon east to Lifeline Medicare Hospital (LLMH) to set up a 65-bed pediatric emergency clinic. The gathering, which runs some more emergency clinics in Goregaon and Kandivali, should begin the office a year ago and under the arrangement was to pay the BMC Rs 3 lakh a month.

In spite of the fact that there is a board outside the structure calling it ‘maternity home and dispensary’, it was being utilized till as of late by the staff of LLMH which has another emergency clinic a couple of meters from the structure. Neighborhood BJP corporator Priti Satam had visited the maternity home a week ago and made a video featuring the abuse of the wellbeing office at the hour of the Pandemic

“We are spending crores on setting up COVID care focuses. This is despicable and genuine carelessness by municipal staff. We have a three-story prepared structure. It could have been utilized for COVID care or, more than likely for non-COVID treatment. What was stunning when I visited was, I discovered garments hanging in the sections. The rooms were involved by emergency clinic staff. A structure held for wellbeing offices is being utilized as a guesthouse,” said Satam.

Satam composed a letter on July 9 to Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal requesting that the structure ought to quickly be reclaimed by the BMC and utilized for COVID or non-COVID offices as instances of coronavirus are ascending in P-south ward (Goregaon).

In Mumbai starting on July 8, 88,795 instances of COVID-19 were accounted for with 5,129 passings. As per the community body’s information, there are 23,915 dynamic cases. In the P-south ward, there are 2,775 cases.

This isn’t the first occasion when the Gokuldham maternity home has pursued contention. In 2013, after a redevelopment venture, the developer had given over the prepared structure to the BMC. Be that as it may, for a long time the structure was lying unused. In 2017 too Satam had grumbled however no move was made by the BMC.

After her most recent objection, the city body has given new show-influence notice to IIMH for abusing the premises. “We have given show-cause notice in the wake of getting a grumbling of the structure being utilized as a guesthouse. Such action isn’t permitted and our staff visited the site and emptied the structure right away. We taught them to begin a medicinal services office soon and in the event that they fall flat, at that point we may think about wiping out of the understanding,” said Dr. Mangala Gomare, Executive Health Officer of the BMC.

Dr. Aniruddh Ambekar of LLMH said that the postponement happened due to extreme harm to the structure. “We got ownership of the structure in January 2019. The structure was seriously harmed as all foundations like power and water were either taken or broken. In September 2019 we began the outpatient division. Be that as it may, fix chip away at the upper floors is going on. OPD is as yet working toward the beginning of the day. In March, the BMC‘s wellbeing office group visited, and afterward, it was concluded that the structure will set aside more effort to prepare as it was seriously harmed,” he said.

“The structure was not transformed into a guesthouse for staff. Just one story was given for nursing staff as they were denied convenience by either their lodging social orders or they live outside Mumbai and voyaging is absurd. Be that as it may, every one of them has now left the structure after the objection was recorded,” he included.
