Who Is Taylor Swift’s ‘All Too Well’ About?

Swifties are convinced that Taylor's latest song, 'All Too Well' is about her former boyfriend.

The latest album of Taylor Swift reached number one in the UK and the US and marked a departure from her country roots, with Taylor moving further into pop music. However, guessings are all-around that the song is about Taylor’s ex. Meanwhile, Taylor has never confirmed who she penned the track about, it is believed to be about her ex-boyfriend, Jake Gyllenhaal.

Swift and Gyllenhaal dated for three months from October to December 2010, right before she turned 21. Gyllenhaal, at the time, was 29, on the edge of turning 30. However, the lines from the song, “I’ll get older but your lovers stay my age,” ended up being truthful, might refer to him as Gyllenhaal, at 40, has been dating model Jeanne Cadieu, who is 25.

Although, they were famously pictured together on Thanksgiving in Brooklyn enjoying takeaway coffees. However, Taylor gave several clues in All Too Well that might indirectly be connected to Jake Gyllenhaal like maple lattes, leading fans to link the clue with the seasonal coffees Taylor and Jake were sipping.

Meanwhile, in another verse of the song, Taylor mentions the scarf that she left at Jake’s sister’s place. This leads Swifties believed that the song referenced the scarf that Taylor had worn while with Jake over Thanksgiving in 2010. The lyrics read, “Left my scarf there at your sister’s house and you’ve still got it in your drawer even now.” Meanwhile, it had been previously reported that since the break-up, Jake has been photographed wearing a scarf that looks like the one worn by the Shake It Off singer during their stroll in New York. The lyrics also mention the couple “dancing around the kitchen in the refrigerator light” and claim that her ex ‘charmed’ the singer’s dad with self-effacing jokes.

However, the lyrics also discuss the potential reasons for the break-up, with Taylor theorizing in the re-released track, “Maybe we got lost in translation. Maybe I asked for too much.” The lyrics suggest that their age difference which was 9 years and was a factor, with Taylor having penning, “You said if we had been closer in age maybe it would have been fine.” This confirms speculation in the aftermath of the break-up with Jake, as a source told US Weekly at the time that he “could feel the age difference” between the two of them.

The new release of the album features a 10-minute version of All Too Well, which is believed to tease more details about her relationship with the Brokeback Mountain actor. The song has been accompanied by a short film, written and directed by Taylor, which starred Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien. It was released last week to much acclaim.
