Who Is Naezy?
Naved Shaikh, known as Naezy, made his mark on mainstream rap with the track “Mere Gully Mein,” which featured Divine. His story so captivated Zoya Akhtar that she included a fictionalized version of his character in her 2019 musical, Gully Boy, portrayed by Ranveer Singh.
Naezy’s Early Life
Naezy was born on August 10, 1993, in Kurla, Mumbai. He lived with his mother, Farhin Raza, in Ram Bachan Chawl while his father, Shahid Raza, worked abroad. Growing up, Naezy faced challenges and trouble, including a run-in with the law. This experience motivated him to channel his energy into creatively expressing both his own and others’ life struggles.
Naezy’s Career
Before launching his rap career, Naezy completed his T.Y.BSC at Guru Nanak Khalsa College, where he formed The Schizophrenics with Neykhil Naik (NCube). His rap journey began with the 2014 iPad video Aafat, followed by the hit track “Mere Gully Mein,” which also featured in Gully Boy (2019) with Ranveer Singh.
A documentary, Bombay 70 by Disha Rindani, which explored his rise, won Best Short Film at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. Naezy later collaborated on “NY se Mumbai” with Divine and Nas and made his Bollywood debut with “Birju” from Hey Bro (2015).
